This map by Claude Joseph Sauthier is one of the most celebrated maps of New York of the entire colonial period

an area that had been contested by Britain for decades

This map was registered by Laurie and Whittle from their offices at 53 Fleet Street

British General William Howe arrived on Staten Island and asked Sauthier to survey and produce a map of the island
